Captain Marvel's Latest Romantic Relationship in the MCU Officially Revealed

Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated film, "The Marvels," is generating buzz and speculation as newly revealed, albeit low-resolution, footage hints at Carol Danvers' (Captain Marvel) relationship status. Is she involved with Prince Yan, or is there more to the story?

In this upcoming team-up film, Brie Larson's Captain Marvel teams up with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan to thwart a formidable Kree ruler. Amid the action, the trio embarks on an adventure to a previously unseen planet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where they encounter Prince Yan, portrayed by Park Seo-joon.

A sneak peek at "The Marvels" was recently shared by a user named wwmarvels, originating from a film promo screened in theaters. At the 1:18 mark of the footage, Carol Danvers is seen walking hand-in-hand with Prince Yan, prompting speculation about their relationship. Monica, in response, utters a surprised "Princess?!"

The footage suggests a romantic connection between Danvers and Yan, but it's essential to note that many MCU fans have expressed a strong desire for Carol to be depicted as a lesbian character in the MCU. Speculation, leaks, and rumors hint that Carol and Yan's relationship might be purely platonic and that Carol's title as a princess might be a result of a communication misunderstanding, given that the planet's population communicates through singing.

Despite the apparent confirmation of her relationship with Prince Yan, a vocal segment of the MCU fanbase continues to hope for Carol's queer identity to be officially acknowledged. Notably, in her initial on-screen appearance in 2019's "Captain Marvel," Danvers did not have a romantic interest, which aligns with the typical portrayal of MCU heroes in their first solo films. Instead, the film emphasized Carol's close friendship with Maria Rambeau, Monica's mother, which some fans interpreted as having romantic undertones.

Another point frequently cited in favor of Carol's queer identity is her hairstyle in "Avengers: Endgame." While her hairstyle resembled certain comic book iterations (where she is portrayed as straight), it was embraced by LGBTQ+ fans and allies as a representation of a butch appearance. Whether this was Marvel's intention remains unknown, but it contributed to the perception that Carol might be a lesbian.

Ultimately, Carol Danvers' sexual orientation does not define her heroic character or cosmic abilities. However, fans eagerly await confirmation of her queerness, as LGBTQ+ representation has been limited within the MCU. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, has previously committed to introducing LGBTQ+ heroes into the franchise.

Fans can look forward to uncovering the truth about Carol Danvers' relationship status when "Marvel Studios' The Marvels" hits theaters on Friday, November 10th.
