Loki season 1 director Kate Herron is making her way back to the world of time travel, and this time, she's delving into the iconic universe of Doctor Who. Herron is set to write an episode for the upcoming adventures of the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.

Herron's previous work includes directing all six episodes of Loki's first season, which aired on Disney Plus in 2021. She's also known for directing four episodes of the first season of Sex Education, the Netflix comedy-drama that catapulted Ncuti Gatwa to stardom.

In a statement, Herron playfully remarked, "Clearly I can't get enough of time travel. It is an absolute honor to write for Russell and Ncuti. We had so much fun, and we can't wait for you all to see it."

Collaborating with Herron on this Doctor Who venture is actor and writer Briony Redman. The duo has worked together on several projects in the past, including their acclaimed comic book, "The Storkening."

Showrunner Russell T. Davies expressed his excitement, saying, "I was a huge fan of Loki and reached out to Kate to say so. She then introduced me to Briony, and it was all systems go! They've written a wonderful script, which created unique challenges for cast and crew alike. The end result is gorgeous, thrilling, and scary, setting it apart from any other episode of Doctor Who."

Ncuti Gatwa's portrayal of the Doctor is eagerly anticipated, with his introduction set for a festive special airing this December. The full season is scheduled to kick off in earnest in 2024, with Gatwa joined by companion Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson. Additionally, Jonathon Groff and Indira Varma will have key roles in the new season.

Doctor Who fans have more to look forward to, as the series returns this November with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate, followed by the premiere of season 14 next year.
