Deadline reports that the entire cast from the conclusion of Season 48 is set to return for Season 49 of the popular Lorne Michaels-created show. Additionally, the show welcomes a new face, Chloe Troast. SNL's official return date is scheduled for October 14. The season premiere will feature Pete Davidson, who was eagerly anticipated to return to the show before Season 48 was cut short due to a writers' strike. He will kick off the season, accompanied by rising rapper Ice Spice as the musical guest. Davidson, fresh from his roles in "Dumb Money" and the renewal of his comedy series "Bupkis" for a second season on Peacock, is expected to draw significant attention.

The following week, on October 21, the show will feature a double-duty performance by Bad Bunny, who will not only serve as the host but also take the stage as the musical guest. For the Puerto Rican rapper, this marks his first time as a host on the show, having previously appeared as a musical guest in 2021.

It's worth noting that SNL's return is in compliance with the rules set by SAG-AFTRA, the actors' union, despite the ongoing strike and negotiations with the studios. Like late-night shows such as "The Tonight Show" and "The Late Show," as well as daytime talk shows and reality shows, SNL falls under SAG-AFTRA's Network Code. The show has received approval from the actors' union, and they are fully supportive of their members fulfilling their contractual obligations on SNL.

The returning cast includes Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang. Cecily Strong has departed from the cast mid-season.

Two notable promotions within the cast are James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman, who have both been elevated from featured players to repertory status this season. James Austin Johnson gained fame for his spot-on impersonations of Donald Trump and Joe Biden, while Sarah Sherman's quirky style became a viral sensation with her "Meatballs" sketch.

Chloe Troast, the new addition to the cast, has a strong background working closely with SNL's "Please Don't Destroy," a writing and performing group consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy. Troast will also appear in the trio's upcoming feature, "The Treasure of Foggy Mountain," premiering on Peacock on November 17. She is known for co-writing and starring in the popular web series "The Basics." Troast, a New Jersey native, was recently named to "Just For Laughs' New Faces of Comedy Class of 2023" and will soon star alongside Kiernan Shipka in the college rom-com "Sweethearts," produced by New Line for Max. She is also involved in the Adult Swim Smalls series "Good Service." Troast is represented by UTA and Authentic and is a member of the sketch teams "A Crazy Amazing Friendship" and "LISA," gaining attention with her solo show, "An Evening with Pepper Slit."
