Stevie Nicks Joins Barbie Signature Music Series with Iconic Doll

Iconic singer Stevie Nicks has become the latest star to receive the Barbie treatment, as Mattel adds her to their esteemed Signature Music series. This collectors' item showcases Nicks in her distinctive 1970s style, complete with her signature flowing black dress and tambourine.

The unveiling of this unique doll took place during Nicks' performance at New York's Madison Square Garden on October 1st. She excitedly shared the news with her audience, explaining that Mattel had approached her a year prior, even before the announcement of the Barbie movie.

Nicks expressed her initial apprehension, wondering if the doll would truly capture her essence. She revealed that she had been carrying the doll with her for the past three months and shared a deep connection with it, stating, "When I look at her, I see my 27-year-old self. I am her, and she is me."

The doll is an unmistakable likeness of the music legend, featuring her trademark blonde hair, a blunt fringe, and her distinctive dark eye makeup. Nicks' iconic gold moon necklace adorns the doll's neck, and her nails are painted a shiny red hue.

The standout feature of the doll is undoubtedly its enchanting, witchy dress, which is reminiscent of the 1977 "Rumours" album cover—an album often hailed as one of the greatest of all time. Nicks personally sent the original dress and boots worn on that iconic cover to Mattel, who painstakingly recreated the look.

In crafting the doll, Mattel also drew inspiration from Fleetwood Mac's 1975 hit song "Rhiannon," referencing the lyrics in the doll's description: "Stevie looks ready to take to the sky like a bird in flight with her flowing chiffon statement sleeves." Completing the ensemble are heeled black leather boots and a tambourine adorned with cascading red and purple ribbons.

The collectible's description proudly states, "Barbie honors the iconic 'Queen of Rock and Roll' Stevie Nicks with a collectible doll that emulates her signature spellbinding style." This coveted doll is available for purchase at $55 (£45).

Stevie Nicks also shared her involvement in the doll's design process, highlighting the importance of attention to detail. She mentioned adjusting the doll's eyebrow arch and enhancing the dark eyeshadow to match her '70s look. Nicks was keen on showcasing a bit of the doll's teeth to make it more authentic. When she finally received the doll on June 22nd, she couldn't have been happier, saying, "This little Barbie is so precious, and they helped her have my soul. If nobody else in the world got her but me, I'd almost be okay with that."

For Nicks, this collaboration with Mattel held special significance due to her mother's love for collecting Barbie dolls. "Honestly, I tend to think all the women in the world would love to have a Barbie made of them, but they know that isn't going to happen," Nicks remarked. She fondly recalled her mother introducing her to Barbie dolls, and now, in a full-circle moment, she herself is immortalized as one. Reflecting on a recent movie featuring Margot Robbie as the iconic doll, Nicks humorously quipped, "When I saw Margot Robbie standing in that bathing suit, I was like, that's my doll—all these years, that's exactly who I wanted to be and look like—Margot Robbie in a bathing suit and high heels with my hair on my head."

This Stevie Nicks Barbie doll is a testament to the enduring legacy of a rock and roll icon, captivating collectors and fans alike with its attention to detail and homage to a legendary artist.
