Succession Star Sarah Snook Advocates for AI Regulation in Entertainment Industry

In a recent interview with the BBC, Sarah Snook, the talented actress from the hit series Succession, emphasized the necessity of establishing new regulations for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the film industry. The discussion revolved around the ongoing SAG-AFTRA dispute, in which AI remains a significant point of contention.

Snook stated, "It's such uncharted territory. We need stringent rules in place to protect not only the acting industry but various sectors. If we can set a precedent for how AI is used, it would be a significant step. The widespread availability of deep fake technology is quite terrifying. The individual responsible for creating the Tom Cruise videos is remarkably skilled. Imagine a company owning your image and voice, using them for propaganda purposes. It's challenging to express how crucial addressing this issue is right now."

She expressed her support for the strike and revealed that taking a break from work helped her cope with the post-Succession success period. Snook is set to take on the challenging role of portraying all 26 characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray on the West End stage in the UK next year.

The story of Dorian Gray, a young man whose portrait ages while he remains youthful, holds great relevance in today's digital age. Snook drew parallels between the themes in Oscar Wilde's Victorian drama and contemporary society, saying, "It's similar to Instagram now. We take photos of ourselves, apply filters, and constantly attempt to preserve this image of the present while making it the future. There's a celebration of youth, a desperate cling to it, and I believe that's what Wilde was addressing."

She also shared her reservations about social media, admitting, "I'm very cautious on social media; I find it to be a daunting landscape."

When asked if she missed her Succession character Shiv, Snook laughed and said, "No, she's nothing like me. Playing her was a lot of fun, but I'm content to set her aside and move on."
