Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade's Unforgettable Wedding: A Hollywood Love Story

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, a power couple in Hollywood, celebrated their wedding with some unforgettable moments that included appearances by renowned entertainers. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the actress, aged 50, fondly reminisced about her wedding day. Among the highlights for Union were stellar performances by John Legend and Ludacris, as well as a heartfelt speech by Kevin Hart.

Union expressed her amazement at the multitude of memorable moments, saying, "There were so many 'Wow, oh my gosh, this is the best thing ever' moments." She went on to elaborate, "It could have been John Legend's enchanting performance, or Ludacris surprising everyone with a spontaneous performance, or the heartfelt speech by Kevin Hart, or Questlove keeping the party alive as the DJ."

During his speech, Hart couldn't help but notice the sheer happiness radiating from the couple. "D, I've seen a change in you. You're happy. Gab, you're happy," he remarked during his toast, adding, "You guys had a perfect day."

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, aged 41, exchanged their vows on August 30, 2014, in a private ceremony in Miami. Their intimate gathering included family and friends, including Wade's children from his previous marriage to Siohvaughn Funches—Zaya and Zaire—and his nephew Dahveon Morris, whom he is the guardian of. (Wade is also a father to a younger son, Xavier.)

Union also revealed that their wedding paid tribute to the iconic Eddie Murphy movie, "Coming to America." She explained, "Before I came down the aisle, we had African dancers welcoming me as an homage to 'Coming to America.' That was an incredible moment."

Since their marriage in 2014, Union and Wade's family has expanded. They welcomed their daughter, Kaavia James, via surrogate in 2018. In 2021, Union candidly discussed her struggles with infertility in an essay for Time magazine.

Union shared that although she initially wanted to experience pregnancy, it was Wade who ultimately convinced her that surrogacy was the right choice after they experienced multiple miscarriages. She recalled her husband's words, saying, "As much as we want this baby, I want you. We've endured too much in our relationship for me to encourage you to do one more thing to your body and soul."

Supporting each other has remained a cornerstone of Wade and Union's relationship. In 2021, Wade opened up about what makes their marriage work in an interview with PEOPLE, stating, "It's about understanding each other, learning about her desires for her life and career, and striving to support those aspirations," as he reflected on their journey.

Union added her perspective, emphasizing their commitment to doing things differently in their second marriages. She noted, "This is both of our second marriages, and we're very open about that. We didn't get it right the first time. There's a better way—being collaborative and equitable. We approach our relationship with humility, listen to each other, and find common ground."
