Francia Raisa Opens Up About Her Relationship with Selena Gomez and Their Ups and Downs (Exclusive Interview)

Francia Raisa, the unwavering friend of Selena Gomez, showed her support at the inaugural Rare Impact Fund Benefit. Speaking with "Extra's" Terri Seymour, Francia shared some insights into their enduring friendship, which spans over a decade.

Raisa humorously pointed out their coordinated spray tans for the event, quipping, "The only thing we coordinated was our spray tans." They decided to get tans together but didn't discuss their outfits in advance.

Reflecting on their remarkable journey, Francia reminisced about their initial meeting 16 years ago when they were both young stars on Disney Channel shows. They first crossed paths during a visit to a Children's Hospital organized by Disney. Selena approached Francia, sharing a personal connection, as her mother had experienced teenage pregnancy just like Francia's character on "Secret Life of the American Teenager." This initial encounter sparked their friendship.

Their bond deepened when both experienced breakups around the same time. Francia recalled Selena reaching out during her breakup, saying, "I am going through some stuff... I am going through a breakup." They leaned on each other for support and have been inseparable ever since.

Francia acknowledged the complexities of their relationship, emphasizing that while they share a deep connection, it's not without its challenges. "We trauma-bonded, which is beautiful, but also it can get rocky and tricky… People grow, relationships change." However, she has no regrets about giving Selena one of her kidneys and expressed her happiness at celebrating and supporting each other today.

Terri noted that all relationships have their ups and downs, to which Francia responded, "I am a different person today than I was last year or even when I turned 30." Both women have evolved, and Francia sees their 30s as a new chapter where they can rediscover each other.

Francia commended Selena for her advocacy for mental health awareness and revealed that Selena's openness inspired her to share her own mental health journey with her audience. She also highlighted the significance of two influential Latinas addressing mental health, breaking down stereotypes within Latin households.

In addition to discussing her friendship with Selena, Francia teased an upcoming business venture involving a famous salsa, which she plans to launch soon with Selena's support.

Terri expressed happiness at both their positive places in life and suggested that time apart can sometimes be necessary for personal growth. Francia agreed, stating that their individual journeys and self-discovery played a crucial role in their present contentment.

Francia concluded on a positive note, affirming that her well-being had nothing to do with the kidney donation, and she's ready to share more about her challenging childhood experiences in the near future, with Selena continuing to provide her unwavering support throughout her journey.
