In a recent captivating discussion on the BBC podcast Sidetracked, Glastonbury Festival mastermind Emily Eavis remained tight-lipped about the 2024 headliners. However, she made a significant pledge to increase gender representation by featuring two prominent female headliners.

Eavis tantalizingly hinted at the "legend slot" for 2024, a cherished spot typically reserved for iconic performers. To our delight, this spot has already been secured by a female artist, although Eavis refrained from disclosing the identity.

The buzz around Glastonbury reached a fever pitch when Eavis expressed her sheer enthusiasm for Madonna's "incredible" new live show. While conversing with podcast hosts Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw, Eavis, who co-manages the festival alongside her father, Michael, implied that headliners are normally locked in by this point in the year. Nonetheless, the 2024 lineup remains shrouded in mystery.

Eavis shed light on the festival's booking process, revealing her interaction with an artist's agent or manager. They typically inquire, "Hi, I've got such and such available next summer, are you interested?" To which Eavis often responds with an enthusiastic "Yeah."

Although Eavis refrained from confirming Madonna as the "big American artist" in question, she couldn't conceal her longstanding wish to witness the Queen of Pop's Glastonbury performance. Her recent visit to Madonna's show at London's O2 Arena left her spellbound, prompting her to share her awe with the world.

Eavis couldn't contain her excitement, stating, "It was incredible. I was simply blown away. I've attended countless gigs before, but I didn't expect this to make such significant headlines. Everyone knows that I've always wanted Madonna to grace the Glastonbury stage."

At the start of the year, Taylor Swift emerged as a frontrunner to grace the Pyramid Stage. However, her commitments during Glastonbury's traditional late June weekend appeared to rule her out. In the wake of this, Madonna's name rose to the top of the bookmakers' favorites list, alongside other acts like Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and the Spice Girls.

Addressing previous criticism for an all-male headlining roster in 2023, Eavis revealed that a female star had initially been booked but later withdrew, making way for Guns 'N Roses to step in. She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to achieving gender balance in lineups, noting, "It is challenging with female artists due to the limited number of headliners, but we're actively nurturing talent by featuring bands and female artists on smaller stages. This strategy promises a larger pool of female headliners soon. Who knows? Next year, we might see two female headliners, and I can confidently say the legend slot is reserved for a female act."

Eavis eagerly anticipates revealing the complete 2024 lineup at the beginning of the year, with tickets scheduled to go on sale in November, priced at £360.
